I am saddened to write of Elizabeth Taylor's passing last Saturday morning. Elizabeth was a member of our 10:30am service and had been coming to our church since the early 1990s. Her funeral will be on Monday 2nd of May at 10:00am at Merrylands Anglican Church. Please pray for her family and for our church during this time of grief.
Congratulations to Ian and Laura and their families for the arrival of their beautiful girl Savannah. It is truly wonderful to have this kind of news to tell people. May God be with you, bless you, and always be the central part of Savannah's life.
It's wonderful to offer our congratulations to Matt Irving and Victoria Palmer who have announced their engagement. We pray that they would grow together in their relationship united in the love of Jesus.
Given all the sadness Merrylands Anglican has faced over the previous year with the death of several friends, others moving out of the area, and still others unable to join us due to illness or age, I've decided to speak about our church in grief this coming Sunday.
If you are someone who has stopped coming to church because it isn't what it used to be or because you are just sad at the losses we've faced then why don't you come this Sunday (24/4) and join us in reflecting on such a difficult topic. If you know someone who could benefit from this topic why don't you invite them. And finally, please don't shy away from coming yourself, especially if you think that you are not sure that you want to think about such things. I hope to see you on Sunday Rodney Thank you to everyone who helped out with Val Moreman's funeral on Tuesday. Lots of people helped in many different ways; setting up, preparing the grounds, resetting the safety switch when the power went down, preparing and serving our light lunch, and cleaning up afterwards. Thank you to everyone who was involved no matter what you did to help.
It was a wonderful service where we focused on Jesus, our great Shepherd King, who leads us through the darkest of times, even death. This means that while our church is grieving, we are not a church that grieves without hope. We know that Jesus will see us through. Finally, we give thanks to God for Val and Wilf and their family who have been part of our church for so long. They have impacted our church in such a way that it is hard not to look at some part of our buildings or ministries and not see the 'fingerprints' of a Moreman family member on them. We truly would not be where we are without their commitment and service to God here at Merrylands Anglican. We will miss Val and the Moreman family very much. |
